Library 2018 Term One

Welcome back everyone. A warm welcome is also extended to Mrs Terry who joins the library team for this term. The library makeover continues with some final furniture and other resources to be organised this term for your children to engage with. In preparation for the commencement of student book loans in Week 4, could parents ensure you provide your children with a clean and labelled library bag please? All children K-4 are required to have a library bag in order to borrow books and it's a good idea to have a special place where they're kept so to support your child in developing organisational skills and familiarise themselves through regular routines.

More information is provided below.

Happy reading!

Lynne Millson

The Circulation Desk and other items for the 'new look' library.

All furniture with the exception of the Circulation Desk are mobile allowing for flexible learning spaces to be created. The new shelves have been loaded with the old ones going to Kingswood PS. Non-Fiction books have undergone a cull with new titles to be added to the collection thanks to your support during our Education Week Book Fair....over $1250 worth of new books are being added to the Oliver library system.

The upgrade will continue during this term with many surprises for a creative learning space, yet to come. Thank you once again for your patience as we redesign the hub of the school.

The Library Team at Parklea Public School

Our Specialist Teaching Team provides support programs for students at whole class, small group or individual level.

Our Specialist Teaching Team staff include Lynne Millson, Megan Terry and Kylie Ellis the school's Library Assistant.

Library

Library lessons are delivered weekly to students in Kindergarten, Years 1 & 2 and fortnightly to students in Years 3 - 6. All students have an opportunity to borrow books during library lessons with further opportunity to exchange their loans during the lunch break. All students K-4 require a library bag for loans, with it being optional for Year 5 & 6 students.

Students' development in Information Skills is taught through a focus on guided inquiry, further supporting their classroom learning. This allows the students to learn how to access information through a variety of resources including information technology. An emphasis for students to also develop a love of reading is encouraged as part of their time in the library and through events celebrating Literacy.

Annual Book Fair

During Public Education Week on Open Day, the library holds a Book Fair for families to purchase discounted books from. A percentage of sales is kept by the school for buying additional books for the school library.

Parent Support

All new books need covering before students can borrow them. If you are able to help with this task either at the school or in taking a bag home, please let one of the Library staff know.
